Mackenzie and Alec's Wedding

My dear friends, Mackenzie and Alec, got married this weekend!
Here's a peek at their wedding + party.

The ceremony was held at the end of the Living Classroom's pier at the Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Park in Fells Point (here).

The weather was perfect, and the air smelled like sugar being refined (from the Domino Sugar Factory across the harbor).
Kenzie was escorted down the aisle by her brother, and dad.

Mackenzie and Alec were married by Alec's sister, Simone.  They asked their parents share their thoughts on marriage, with some remarks by siblings and other family members. Alec's parents used a metaphor of marriage as white water rafting - you're in a tiny boat together, making split-second decisions that affect the other person, and no room for baggage. I thought it was great. Mackenzie's dad talked about accumulating experiences together, and creating "family lore". One of my favorite things he said was, after telling the gathering about all the different stories and tidbits that comprised their family, "Not one of them are 'things'". Made me cry!

Their ceremony was all Mackenzie and Alec, no fluff. It was all about being confident and rational in their decision to tie their lives, and their belief in marriage and family. It made me think about priorities, and how everyone has the power to decide what they want out of life.
 After the kiss!

Recessional! Time to celebrate. They had champagne and hors d'oeuvres from Waterfront Kitchen. I gave a toast! It was nerve-wracking :).

After the ceremony. Nice bowtie!

Kenzie and Alec had polaroid-style instant cameras next to the guestbook. Genius! It was so fun (especially at the end of the night).

The tents! They were so beautifully lit up.
Behind me was the food (from Little Havana), and some of the drinks. They had Mojitos, and 4 varieties of home-brewed beer (Alec's hobby). One was called Laceration RyePA because Alec severed a tendon in his foot while making it! Eek.

The dance floor (the patio). There was a stage for the band to the left. This was obviously as people were arriving, as it is empty! Everyone was trying to sign the guestbook!

Their cake; isn't it great?! It's their cats, Calvin and Hobbes (Calvin is the orange one).

My siblings and I. Yes, my brother is gnawing on me.

And, the bride and I! Love you, Kenzie.
